HC Talk Series: Scotland’s Wildest Woodland Garden
Scotland’s Wildest Woodland Garden - An entertaining and informative talk by Alan P. Bennell.
Nearly a century ago, John Holms of Formakin began to plant the sheltered hollow of Larachmhor, just outside Arisaig, with an astonishing array of Rhododendrons and other exotic plants. Since 1962, a team of volunteers linked to the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh have kept the garden alive and continued to add many more exotics from their plant hunting trips around the globe. In this insightful and visually engaging presentation, Alan Bennell, who has led most of that activity for the past thirty years, will unfold the story of Larachmhor.
Alan P. Bennell (BA Hons Botany Oxford 1973) was Principal Scientific Officer, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh 1976-2014, including periods as Deputy Director Public Programmes and Head of Exhibitions & Education.
